On Saturday, May 27, 2023 the Missouri Society Sons of the American Revolution, the Centre for French Colonial Life and the Ste. Genevieve French Militia Encampment held a ceremony at Memorial Cemetery in Ste. Genevieve, MO to honor and mark the grave sites of members of the French speaking militia that assisted in the defense of Fort San Carlos in 1780.

Patriot Etienne Bermard defended Fort San Carlos in St. Louis, Spanish Louisiana in 1780 as a member of the militia. the Fort was under attack from British and Native American forces. Although, the defenders were heavily outnumbered, it was successfully defended, ending the British objective of controlling the Mississippi River.
Etienne Bernard was also a founding member of All Saints Catholic Church.
This Grave Marking was presented by the Fernando de Leyba Chapter, Missouri Society, Sons of the American Revolution, the Saint Charles Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, All Saints Catholic Church, Celebrating the 200th Anniversary of its founding and the City of St. Peters, Missouri.
