Monticello Society C.A.R.
Welcome to the Monticello Society C.A.R.
History
The Monticello Society C.A.R. was organized in 1900 in Jefferson City. Through 125 years, the society has had its ups and downs; at times disbanded, but then would reorganize again. Most recently, the Monticello Society C.A.R. reorganized in February 2022. The Society has always been sponsored by the Jane Randolph Jefferson Chapter, NSDAR.
Meetings
Society meetings are held on Sunday afternoons in January, February, March, May, September, October, and November, and may change as needed; flexibility is a must! Meetings generally take place in central Missouri. Based upon the program and member interests, meetings may occur outdoors, at members’ homes, or at the library. Previous meetings have been held at the Fire Museum, the Capitol Building, parks, fishing ponds, and hiking trails. Members attend State Conference, State Workshop, and Regional Meetings. Members enjoy being pages or aides at these meetings. The Society President presides over the meetings, and Society Officers provide reports.
Activities
Society members join SAR and DAR in parades. They learn about local veterans, historical events, conservation efforts, and volunteer opportunities. Members write cards and notes to veterans; celebrate Constitution Week with a display; tie fleece blankets for children in the hospital; and help decorate the State Christmas Tree at DAR Headquarters. Members participate as State Officers and State Committee Chairs. The Society has an extensive library that is available at the meeting through the society librarian.
