How to Join Us!
Step 1: To initiate the Sons of the American Revolution membership process, you should begin by ensuring that you can satisfy the SAR membership requirements and that you are a direct descendant of a Revolutionary War patriot. The SAR does not restrict membership on basis of race, age, color, religion, national origin, nation of citizenship, or residency. To establish eligibility, you must be able to confirm that you are a direct ancestral line descendant of a patriot by providing appropriate SAR acceptable documentation.
Step 2: Next, collect your data and gather any documents that you possess in order to show your lineage to the patriot ancestor. Initially, the proper documentation includes birth certificates, death certificates, marriage certificates (all that apply) for you, both of your biological parents, and all four of your grandparents. One of our genealogists can work with you once you provide that necessary information. If you have an ancestor who lived in the United States prior to 1900, chances are you may be the descendant of a Revolutionary War patriot.
Step 3: Naturally, the next step is to contact the William C. Corum chapter at MembershipCorum@gmail.com. Our chapter has the resources to help you. We know how to prepare the official application form, which will eventually be submitted when all the facts are gathered. Our genealogists will be able to help you with the genealogical work. They will understand well the level of proof documentation that you must provide for each person in your bloodline back to the Revolutionary Patriot. Most importantly, they will offer to sponsor your membership and support your efforts through the application process.
Step 4: Congratulations! You are ready to begin preparing your SAR membership application. If you followed all of the previous steps, this shouldn’t be very difficult. As an applicant, there are several membership options. While most individuals who join the SAR will do so as a regular member, we also have a junior membership option for men under 18 years of age. Your chapter contact will be able to discuss membership options and related costs with you.
