TEXT:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fourteen years a\/go, in 1975, there were no local SAR Chapters in Missouri. On 29 May 1976, twelve SAR Compatriots gathered in Joplin, Missouri, to sign a petition requesting permission to form the first local Chapter of MOSSAR. On the same date the petition was presented to the officers of MOSSAR at their annual meeting being held at The School of the Ozarks, Point Lookout, Missouri.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The State Society approved the petition and directed Compatriot Robert F. Winegar, an incumbent Vice President, to hold an organizational meeting in Joplin, for the purpose of electing officers and selecting a name for this first local SAR chapter in Missouri. The officers of MOSSAR approved the name, “The Sgt. Ariel Nims Chapter No. ONE, of Joplin, MO”,”, and a charter was issued 29 May 1976.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Saturday 17 July 1976, at a luncheon meeting of MOSSAR held in the Ramada Inn, Joplin, MO, the officers of the State Society presented the charter to The Sgt. Ariel Nims Chapter No. One, and the following officers were installed: Robert F. Winegar, President; Roland T. Smith, Vice President; William H. Nims, Jr., Secretary; Stewart W. Miller, Treasurer; William H. Nims, Jr., Registrar; William H. Nims, I, Chaplain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The chapter has supplied a number of State Society officers ana committee chairmen. Among them are Charles W. Calef, William H. Nims, Jr., Rylan M. Rudy, Roland T. Smith, Robert G. Tucker, William L. Wood and Paul T. Butler. Compatriot Butler has had two feature articles published in the National SAR Magazine: “George Washington, The Christian” and “Over-The-Mountain Chaplain, 1780, The Reverend Samuel Doak.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chapter compatriots have been active in the discovery, marking, and dedication of the graves of three Revolutionary War Soldiers, buried in Southwest Missouri. The chapter has made numerous Good Citizen-ship, Law Enforcement and Meritorious Service awards, and in 1981 members of the chapter gave significant assistance in the establishment of the Ozark Mountain chapter of MOSSAR, chartered in Springfield, MO, on 10 July 1981.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
