Middle School Brochure Contest<\/h2>\n

\u00a0The SAR Brochure Contest is open to all 6th, 7thand 8th grade Middle School students in public, private and home schools. When school systems are participating in the contest, students will enter through their school system. If they are not participating, students may enter directly to the chapter, through scouting or the CAR (Children of the American Revolution). Regardless of how the student enters, he\/she may only enter one brochure per year. All brochures will be created by the individual student, no group entries are allowed. The contest is designed to help support the educational efforts in public, private and home school curriculum\u2019s when the Revolutionary period is taught, but \u00a0students may enter in any of their middle school years.<\/p>\n

You will be judged on how well you understand, develop and present the specific foundational document you selected to be your brochure\u2019s theme. Brochures will be judged at the National level focusing on the following three categories: Content; Creativity & Correctness.<\/p>\n

Authorship and Use of Technology: The judging criteria rates highest \u00a0personally drawn art work and authored text by the student as opposed to cut and paste from books, magazines and off the Internet \u2013 though use of material from books, magazines and the Internet does not disqualify an entry, it is just valued less during judging. The use of software tools by the student for creating the brochure, and even the artwork, is permissible.<\/p>\n

The SAR Brochure Contest theme is currently any of these nine (9) Foundational Documents of the United States :<\/p>\n

  • Articles of Association of 1774<\/li>\n
  • The Virginia Declaration of Rights 1776<\/li>\n
  • Declaration of Independence 1776<\/li>\n
  • Articles of Confederation 1777-1781<\/li>\n
  • General Washington\u2019s Resignation as Commander of the Continental Army 1783<\/li>\n
  • U.S. Constitution 1787<\/li>\n
  • Federalist Papers 1788<\/li>\n
  • Bill of Rights 1791<\/li>\n
  • President Washington\u2019s Farewell Address, 1796<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Starting in the school year 2023-2024 and for the following ten years, the Brochure contest will also include the creation of brochures based on the celebration of 250th anniversary events of the Revolutionary period. These themes and celebration of these events include:<\/p>\n

    • 1773- 2023 The Boston Tea Party<\/li>\n
    • 1774- 2024 The First Continental Congress<\/li>\n
    • 1775- 2025 The Battles of Lexington and Concord<\/li>\n
    • 1776- 2026 \u00a0The Battle of Princeton and Valley Forge<\/li>\n
    • 1777- 2027 \u00a0The Battle of Saratoga<\/li>\n
    • 1778- 2028 The French Alliance<\/li>\n
    • 1779- 2029 The Siege of Vincennes or Fort Sackville Battle of Kettle Creek<\/li>\n
    • 1780- 2030 Battle of Kings Mountain<\/li>\n
    • 1781- 2031 Siege of Yorktown<\/li>\n
    • 1782- 2032 Battle of Blue Licks<\/li>\n
    • 1783- 2033 Treaty of Paris<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      Therefore, this year, the 2026-2027 school year, students can choose from the nine foundational documents as well as\u00a0<\/span>The Battle of Princeton,\u00a0<\/span><\/strong>or\u00a0<\/span>Valley Forge<\/strong>, and\u00a0<\/span>The Battle of Saratoga.<\/strong><\/p>\n
