History of the Harry S. Truman Chapter, MOSSAR
The Harry S Truman SAR Chapter of Independence, MO is into its 41st year as a member of NSSAR and MOSSAR. The chapter was the original sponsor of the George Washington Birthday Celebration event in Kansas City which is held yearly. The HST Chapter was the winner of the 1998 President General’s Color Guard Best Chapter.
Over the years, members of the Harry S Truman chapter have donated time and money to area Honor Flights and have welcomed many Veterans home from these flights, provided food and personal items to local Veteran’s Homes, honored teachers, JROTC students, and Eagle Scouts. The chapter sponsored the 2025 Teacher of the Year winner for the Missouri Society Sons of the Revolution.
For the past two years, HST Chapter has hosted an event entitled “Above & Beyond” on Medal of Honor Day, March 25th, at the Harry S Truman Library in Independence,. At this event, we honored Compatriots of the SAR who were recipients of the Medal of Honor.
